Fond Memories from the Classroom and an Exciting New Journey

A Fresh Perspective

A quick introduction of sorts….I am the “new guy” here at Educational Tours.  I have a story, as do you and everybody else in this fascinating world in which we live!  So, here is the story as to how the student travel business has become my new full time career.

We will start this story with college since those years can be described as truly some of the best years of my life!  I graduated with a History degree from the University of Florida in 2005.  Then, I attended the University of South Florida and received my Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Social Science Education in 2007.

I guess it will come as no surprise that my first “real job” was that of an educator.  I spent 6 wonderful years teaching social studies and coaching at Citrus High School.  My last year teaching and coaching was the 2012-13 school year.  Being an educator and coach was a rewarding experience that has provided me with ever lasting positive memories.  I grew as a person and professional during my years in the classroom.  There is nothing quite like teaching a lesson and having the feeling that the students were totally engaged and “got it”!  Right along these lines is the feeling a coach gets on “game day”.  Only those that have walked in the shoes of a teacher and/or coach really understands this.  For the teachers out there, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you do, and I really understand the needs of a teacher sponsor who is using our services in development of a tour.

This brings me to Educational Tours.  I have been around the student travel business my whole life as my Dad founded Educational Tours in the mid 1980’s.  With a group of dedicated employees (2 of which are my uncles!), ET has become a leader in the student travel business.  I have been working part-time for ET since I graduated high school in 2001.  Being able to travel to such places as Tallahassee, St. Augustine, Washington D.C., New York, Gettysburg and Williamsburg has afforded me the opportunity to really see what this business is all about! While I was teaching, working for Educational Tours in the summer time helped reinforce how passionate I am about the student travel business.  It might sound cliche to say…….but this business really is about creating life-long positive memories for people and that is exactly what we do at ET.

I started working full time with Educational Tours in July of this year. I’m doing a little bit of everything!  I have been on the road meeting with many of our outstanding teacher sponsors across the state of Florida.  I have been reaching out to potential new clients across the state as well.  We offer an array of destinations to bring students!  Our website, www.myedtours.com, is a great place to go to see trip destinations/options as well as to learn more about our company.  While at the office, I work with our team who specifically develops our DC tours and New York tours.  I couldn’t have asked for a better team of colleagues to work with.  They have welcomed me and have been excellent teachers of their trade!  I am grateful for the opportunity to work at Educational Tours.

On a more personal note…..I have an amazing wife named Roselle who is a teacher at Lecanto High School.  We have been married a little over 3 years!  We have a dog named Titan.  I love all sports….Is this not the best time of year!!!??  Fall weather and football season is in full swing…..professional baseball playoffs……..basketball and hockey starting their seasons……Do you get my drift!?  I have the biggest love/hate relationship with the game of golf…….I love to play golf but hate the fact that I’m really not any good!  Happy Thursday to all of you out there.  How many times have you said to yourself today “tomorrow is Friday”!!!?

Preview to my blog post next week……Some general travel tips and my favorite places to visit in Tallahassee and Washington D.C. (two of our most popular destinations to bring students).  Stay tuned friends.

-Cheers-
