Just got back from DC where I was showing a group of Safety Patrols from Yulee Elementary School and their chaperones around. There was 22 students and 19 adults. We went to the Naval Academy in Annapolis and did a guided tour of the academy. It rained while we were there but everyone was prepared. It was raining on and off the first touring day so we tried to keep inside touring the operative. While we were at Arlington National Cemetery we were able to locate a fallen soldier that was from their home town. A chaperone read a letter that he had sent home just in case he didn’t make it back.
It was a rare moment indeed. The patrols left a patrol belt on the tomb stone so he would know that they were there. I don’t remember having been part of a more touching thing while on tour. This was a special group indeed.
