Civics is now taught in the seventh grade in almost all public schools throughout the state of Florida. Teachers striving to enhance the study of civics can find no better destination than our State Capital to reinforce classroom lessons.  What better way to discover how our three branches of government actually work that to see our state government in action.  Our Tallahassee Tours include our Florida Capitol Building (where the Senate and House meet in their respective chambers.  The office of the Governor is also located in the Capitol Building).  Just across the street is the Florida Supreme Court Building which also offers great educational programs for students.

There are also outstanding museums to tour in and around Tallahassee.  The Old Capitol Building is filled with historical exhibits dealing with all three branches of Florida’s government.  Here you will see the Old Senate and House Chambers, the Governors Office, and the Supreme Court Chambers – all as they would have looked in the early 1900s.  The Florida Museum of History is an outstanding museum that illustrates the colorful history of our state and it is filled with many interactive exhibits. The Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science offers a pioneer turn of the century farm village and an animal habitat featuring animal indigenous to Florida (including the Florida Panther!).  You can also take a narrated boat cruise and learn about the local wildlife on the beautiful unspoiled Wakulla River which is located a short distance from Tallahassee.  Finally, students will learn about how early Spanish settlers and local Native Americans interacted at Mission San Luis, Florida’s Apalachee-Spanish Living History Museum.

There is always special excitement in town when the Legislature is in Session which will run from March to early May 2014.  But no matter what time of year you choose to travel, our State Capital is filled with great learning experiences for students, especially those studying Civics.

Please give us a call or email to discuss our fantastic State Capitol Tours!
